Hi, thanks for checking out Antillectual

We're a punkrock trio from Nijmegen, the Netherlands. We've toured and released albums worldwide since 2005. We like our punkrock political and melodic, combining the best of ’90’s skatepunk, ’00’s emo and ’10’s orgcore.

23 July 2006 ~ Comments Off on big f’ing news!

big f’ing news!

have we got shit to announce? oh yes we do. after forming antillectual, 6 years of being in a band together, having shitloads of fun in studios and vans, bob has decided to quit antillectual. even though it is not a complete shock coming out of the blue, the last year he has been focusing on his study, it was still an important and heavy decision to make. below you can read the statement bob asked us to put online:

 "hi everyone, bob here.
after a good talk yesterday with willem and yvo i've decided to leave antillectual. it was a hard decision but with a busy next year coming up i'm just not able anymore to just pack my stuff and go on tour. cause that's what being in antillectual is all about, playing as many shows as possible. i think we all agree on that. so after a nice talk yesterday i decided that it would be a good time to step out now instead being on tour and suddenly realize it isn't working out. so i'm sorry, no fights or whatever just a good talk. it could've saved metallica a lot of money! but enough lame jokes…
i want to thank willem and yvo for just everything, irina angry & peter youth, suzette, riekus for filling in for me. and everybody else that i've ever met/played with. i also wish suzette and yvo all the best and happiness with their own angry youth.
this is it. i'm signing out. thanks everyone for the last 6 years.
 toedeloe!" (july 16, 2006)

well, there you go … we want to thank bob enourmously for everything he has done for the band, all the time and energy he has put in the band and for putting up with us. there's no way we can thank him enough. as said, no hard feelings, pressure or arguments influenced his decision. neither do we criticize his decision, this is the best for both bob and antillectual. we wish him all the best for the future and his work as a sound engineer. if you want to send him a message you can do so through bob@antillectual.com, beware: do not disturb him during dinner.

fortunately enough antillectual will not be without a drummer now. a logical next step seemed to be asking riekus, being the replacement drummer for bob already, if he wanted to join the band for real. and he wanted to! so we can also introduce our new drummer rightaway: riekus. also famous from bands like brandnewday, stars overnight, straight a's and almost every band coming out of friesland. he already played around 30 shows with us the last months replacing bob and we're very happy he's willing to replace him permanently.

we're somewhere in between sadness of bob leaving the band and hapiness of having riekus as his replacement. fact of the matter is though, that we're still as strong as ever and more ready than ever. we'll be writing new songs this summer and hopefully playing a lot in the new season. got shows? keep 'em comin'! and in the future new releases will follow for sure. releases? schmeleases!

furthermore: we want to thank everyone that showed up at the show we played last friday at the valkhof affaire in nijmegen. it was a blast playing at such a big festival in front of so much people appreciating what we do. thanks! you can read a nice review of the show at 3 voor 12.

also; being three years late with every hype, we put some new songs on our purevolume and myspace sites.

unfortunately we have some less positive news as well, our show in boxmeer has been cancelled. hopefully we'll be playing the box some other time, but certainly not on september 23. but on the other hand, we have a new show for october 1st. in winterswijk that is. hope to see you then and there! keep 'em comin'!

another one

we've had some excellent shows lately, the speak out fest in arnhem, our trip to austria and slovenia with the triebwerk sampler presentation and the donauinselfest, good times all over! thanks to those helping us out with that stuff, etjen of just like your mum tour up front. especially meeting our friends of rentokill and 7yearsbadluck was awesome, meeting joni from annie mae bookings for the first time and seeing and hearing in-sane play for the first time as well was amazing too! unfortunately the triebwerk sampler is not in yet, hopefully it'll be in our hands soon. you can find more info about the sampler here, tracklist and stuff.

we have made some pictures of this trip to slovenia and austria. check them out here if you want. don't expect anything this time, it will make it so much better.

this is only a small update, nothing much to inform you guys on unfortunately. hopefully we will have something to say about future plans sometime soon. there will be plans though, don't worry. we don't. sorry, but that's it for now …

05 June 2006 ~ Comments Off on and finally

and finally

the tour report of our euro tour last april is online! both words and pictures. expect a lot of sleep and pets, and sometimes even combined. check here to see and read how much fun we had, and you didn't. embarrassing pictures included! thanks again for those helping us out on this trip!

also, we have a new sampler online. the ashcan records sampler is up in our shop, you can get it for 5 euro, along other merchandise. check "merch" for info and stuff. the triebwerk sampler is coming in soon as well.

speaking of which. we'll actually be playing on the release party of that sampler in wiener neustadt, austria. a cool trip that will bring us to slovenia and a huge festival called the donauinselfest in vienna too. we're very excited to go to a new country and finally meet up with joni from annie mae bookings. and we're scared playing the big angry austrian festival. but hey, it's all part of the job …

www.bosab.nl has made our song "because we can" sampler of the month. you can check it (and the recently done interview) here (or at this actual page too).

well, despite all the bands and other relationships that have quit recently, we dare to tempt fate and say "until next time!"

11 May 2006 ~ Comments Off on just before we leave again

just before we leave again

we have some news. in the last minute we found a third show in the u.k. for may 18, in brighton. it will be at an awesome place, so we've heard, called the cowley club. hope to see some of you there. we have another show to announce we're very proud of (well, at least my mum is!). we'll be playing at the final (fri)day of the infamous "zomerfeesten" during "de nijmeegse vierdaagse", at "de valkhof affaire" to be "exact"! there are no other bands confirmed yet. but i wouldn't be surprised if they manage to put dire straits up there. we'll keep you up to date. for sure.

a venue in wiener neustadt in austria called the triebwerk will be compiling a sampler with all sorts of cool bands that played there. and, indeed, guess what … we're one of them. some reasons to look out for this sampler: venerea, peter pan speedrock, turbo ac´s, heideroosjes, fabulous disaster, face tomorrow, astpai, rentokill, ephen rian, red lights flash, antimaniax, bambix, cornflames, and many many many more.

and a final thing. there's an interview with me (willem) on bosab.nl, a dutch site consisting of interviews with dutch bands. check it out if you want to be informed. on anything.

oh damn, one more last final thing. the tour report of our euro tour in april will be online next week. we're still waiting for some embarrassing pictures to be developed. yes, we know, that's the old fashioned way. bye bye now, see you at a wilhelm scream.

26 April 2006 ~ Comments Off on …and we’re back

…and we’re back

and how! fuck, this euro tour was an amazing experience. despite the bad omen before the tour with the canceled shows, the shows that went on were really great. without exception. we'd like to thank all the people that came to our shows to watch us play and helped us getting rid of our merchandise. and of course a huge "thanks!" to all the people that helped us out with the shows, both local bookers and annie mae bookings. you can expect a tour report online as soon as possible with some vague pictures and boring stories.

for those who can't wait to see us in shorts: pictures!

other news: angry youth records has a new website. and a damn fine one too. check their future plans and what they've been up to lately here
