Hi, thanks for checking out Antillectual

We're a punkrock trio from Nijmegen, the Netherlands. We've toured and released albums worldwide since 2005. We like our punkrock political and melodic, combining the best of ’90’s skatepunk, ’00’s emo and ’10’s orgcore.

Recording album #4: a little update

As you may have noticed on the Twitters, Facebooks and other news outlets, we’ve started the recordings of our 4th, as of yet untitled, full-length album. Here’s a little peek for you.

We’ve taken a little more time to prepare for this album than we’ve done in the past. Willem made rough demo’s at home and we did pre-production and recordings before recording the real thing. The biggest difference from “Start From Scratch!” is that with this album we’ve tried to bring some more compact and even more melodic songs to the writing table. Rest assured: not melodic in a virtuoso Pink Floyd or Dream Theatre sense, but generally a higher hooks-per-song ratio than we may have done before. Then again: there is always a big difference in perception between the listeners of music and those who wrote that music, so we’re very curious to hear your opinion when it’s ready!

Last weekend we started (and finished!) recording drums, and Riekus hit the drums and cowbell as hard as he could, so it sounds very promising already. In the next weeks Willem and Glen will be recording bass and guitar at our headquarter (= home), and vocals at Nico XPZ‘s home studio. How DIY is that? After we’ve recorded all bass and guitars, we’ll be re-amping them. This may sound a little technical, but it basically means it will sound great! Last we’ll be throwing in some extra, not-so-punk instruments like organs, pianos and cellos, which you may have expected after the “Future History” EP.

Behind the scenes we’re doing more work involved in releasing an album: talking to labels, planning tours, discussing artwork, thinking about an album title (how could we forget that!), brainstorming about (yet another!) music video and planning a release show. All in all there’s a lot to be done, but nothing will stand between us and world domination. We’ll try to keep everyone updated as the plan unfolds …

In the mean time, we’re still playing shows! Keep an eye on the shows page and hope to see you out there

31 December 2012 ~ Comments Off on 2012: quality over quantity

2012: quality over quantity

As promised, our reflection on this year, and looking what’s ahead in 2013. In 2012 we didn’t do the most shows in a year, but we did go back to the USA, played Fest 11, did our first ever show in Canada and released an album and toured in Brazil for the first time ever! In May 2012 we started the pre-production for the album that we will record and release in 2013, resulting in the Future History EP released in September 2012. We got the chance to play a lot of fun festivals and a crazy benefit show for the Black Fish in our hometown last summer. We recorded 3 music videos of which we still owe you 1! We want to salute all people that made 2012 such an excellent year: Just Like Your Mom, No Reason Records, Shield Recordings, Angry Chuck Records, Destiny Records, Mighty Vision Entertainment, Whipping Post Music, Mike/After the Fall, Uira/Undermusic Productions, Bedtime for Charlie, XPZ Sound, and of course, all of YOU out there!

As mentioned, 2013 will bring us a new album and more music videos. We are really looking forward to playing Monster Bash and doing tours around the release of our upcoming album. We’ll be going back to places we visited before and conquering new land, doing tours, festivals and one-off shows.

We wish you all the best for 2013, enjoy the new year! But to what extent can we contribute to that; what would YOU like US to do in 2013?

28 December 2012 ~ Comments Off on Year list 2012

Year list 2012

How’s everybody doing? Stuffed yourselves well enough during Christmas? Bought enough fireworks to celebrate the new year? Are you bored in between those two “highlights” of the year? In case the latter applies we made some sort of year-list. Even though our scene will always be focused on what is happening on that other side of the Atlantic Ocean, it is incredible how much awesome music comes from our tiny country and our less tiny continent. These are only some of the real highlights in 2012 from Holland and Europe. It’s about time to recognize, we’re in this together!

Astpai – Efforts and Means
They totally killed it at Fest 11. In 2012 they served us amazing live shows, a new album and documentary. Europe’s second-hardest-working band 😉

Smile and Burn – We Didn’t Even Fight Yet
This is best described as a combination of the Beatsteaks and Lifetime. Or something like that. Catchy and melodic on record; energetic and funny as hell live.

Harsh Realms – Sink in Time/Chemistry EP
Most promising band from Holland in 2012. But only 2 songs on this EP, and unfortunately only 1 of them on youtube. They played our EP release party and kicked kont! New album next year?

Bedtime For Charlie – Bright City Lights
Italy’s kings of pop punk. Can easily live up to their North American collaegues. RIYL The Wonder Years, Man Overboard, Transit, Run For Cover Records. All combined on this Album

Bangers – Good Livin’
I’m sure you know them, coolest UK band at this moment, friendliest dudes. Played a completely packed Onderbroek last Sunday. This is only an EP, hopefully a new album soon.

Coral Springs – Greetings From
Female vocals, you know we’re suckers for that. Newest female fronted all star band from Holland. EP!

Insane/Despite Everything – Split
Two powerhouses from Greece/Balkans, serving you melodic/melancholic unity. This 10″ actually made me hook up my record player again after breaking down.

Bad Ideas – Murder of Gods
“New” band from Sam, formerly of The Living Daylights. Sweetest dude from the UK, killing it whether playing solo or with band. The British Goo Goo Dolls if we may say so? Album out on Shield Recordings.
