Music video “Work Horses vs Show Ponies” and “Perspectives & Objectives” out on tape

Behind the scenes we are working hard on new songs. We hope to record our new album this spring and release it in the fall or winter. But in the mean time this is happening:

Music video “Work Horses vs Show Ponies”

It has been a while since we last posted a tour report. And our last music video came out almost a year ago. So we made a combination of both for “Work Horses vs Show Ponies”. You can check the music video below and while you’re at it, subscribe to our youtube channel to stay up to date. The video was shot during the 150 days on the road after the release of “Perspectives & Objectives”. Footage was shot all over Europe and includes tours with Propagandhi, Ten Foot Pole, ZSK and festivals like Monster Bash.

“Perspectives & Objectives” out as a benefit tape

Somewhere between trying to be hip and realizing that people don’t necessarily buy tapes for the sound quality, we came up with the following idea: we raided our old tape collections to release “Perspectives & Objectives” on recycled tapes. The release is limited to 50 hand numbered tapes. Lyrics, liner notes and a download are included to provide you with a high quality version of the album. But the best part is that since the production of these tapes is low-cost, all proceeds will be donated to Kafka. Kafka is an NGO that keeps track of extreme-right activities and tendencies in the Netherlands. A very noble initiative, but they need money to keep doing what they do.

So this project is 3-in-1: Hip tape, quality download, contributing to a better world for people and environment. What more could one want?

You can place your pre-order here. The release is in cooperation with our friends from Trilob Records (Adhesive, Banquets, In-Sane).

Silencing Civilization on Youtube

Since more and more people listen to music through Youtube we decided to upload all our music over there. The other albums were already available and with the addition of “Silencing Civilization” our album discography is complete. Enjoy, and don’t forget to subscribe to our channel to see new videos first!

Silencing Civilization is our debut album, our first professional recording, with the legendary Menno Bakker at the Bunt studio. Mastering was done by Alan Douches from West West Side Studios. It was initially released as a CD-digipack in 2005 by Angry Youth Records, features guest vocals by our friend Wick from Bambix and got us attention in our own country and offered us our first shows abroad. This is the album people probably refer to when saying: “I really only loved their first shit”.

When this first run sold out the friendly people at Shield Recordings did a re-release in 2008. This re-mastered version by Nico van Montfort is released as a jewelcase CD-version and VINYL! Both formats are still available at our web store. This re-mastered version is now uploaded to Youtube.

*Fun fact* We’re currently working on an album scheduled to record and release in 2015. Ten years after working on the album, we’re now working on a new song tentatively titled “Silencing Civilization”.

Review and free download “Perspectives & Objectives”

Better late than never, especially when it’s a killer review like this one: Punknews.org wrote a review of our latest album “Perspectives & Objectives”. The people who coined the term “orgcore” gave us 4 out of 5 stars and As melodic Europunk goes, this band has to be up near the top of the pile. Read for yourself

Related to the latter, and old news to those who receive our newsletter: we recently released “Perspectives & Objectives” as a pay-what-you-like download. For those interested in physical copies, check our webshop, or for cheap shipping to North America and Australia check the A-F Records store.

15 April 2014 ~ Comments Off on Music video for Pink Print

Music video for Pink Print

We’re extremely happy to present to you: the music video for Pink Print, the second single / music video from “Perspectives & Objectives”. It includes a lot of rolling (and falling) fun. Thanks to Suck City Rock’n Roller Dolls for performing and Ivo van Aart for producing. Check it out and spread the word!

This song criticises the role of women in todays society in general and girls in the music scene in particular. Despite all efforts and good intentions few women participate in music, actively and passively. Roller derby is a typical example of how women can have a different role in a young and active scene.

PINK PRINT

I would hate this to sound sexist: “This goes out to all the girls”
So few here, girlfriends, wives and cooks. From the back of the room, only here for the looks?

I hoped we could provide a safer alternative in this gated community
But it seems we’ve failed
Contrary to popular beliefs girls are not just donuts.
How we warn our daughters shows how civilized we are

What do you expect, examples given and standards set?
How we treat our maids shows how civilized we are

Stop burning the witches, burn our blueprints on their stakes
And use the second sex’ craft to bake a pink print for a change

Liner notes:

Girls in our scene are underrepresented, in both audiences and bands. When playing with (partly) female bands or in front of an equally mixed audience I often feel like addressing them. What always holds me back are other bands dedicating songs to girls, “This goes out to all the girls”, for all the wrong, sexist reasons. It would be cool if girls at shows were not only welcome for their looks, boyfriends or cooking skills, but also just for being there or for their music. I think a lot more girls would eventually join in. “From the back of the room” is a documentary about actively involved women in the punk/hardcore scene.
Girls and women in our society aren’t treated much better. There still is a lot of sexism, hidden or not. A very recent example is the scandal of Dominique Strauss Kahn raping a black maid and getting away with it. Not because he was innocent, but because the girl wasn’t “credible” enough.
