ANTILLECTUAL 25y! March 29, 2003: Our first ever show abroad!

Even though it did absolutely not feel like it, on March 29, 2003 we played our first ever show abroad, in Luxembourg! It was the Dutch Punk Festival with Antidote, Beans, The Bips, Disturbance, Last To Go, B.B.K., and local bands Destitution, Nervous Chillin’ and Extinct. Organized by our friend Giordano Bruno, who has booked us many times after and still books amazing shows in Luxembourg (Madones Fest!).

This was a crazy experience with all our Dutch friends on the road travelling from Nijmegen/The Netherlands to the deep south of Luxembourg to play to all our Dutch friends and the Luxembourg punk scene (equal in size). Yvo’s dad had a van at that time and wanted to join us for the trip. We met up at the old Doornroosje, loaded gear and drove in a cordon to Luxembourg. The combination of all these older bands and more “punk” people (at least to our idea at that time) and us being escorted by one of our dads made it a hilarious trip.

Another reason why this show was a milestone for us: it was the first time playing as a threepiece. In the months before it became clear that continuing as a threepiece matched our ambitions better. For all four band members, including Falco, who was playing bass for us at the time. He was still in high school, not able to spend as much time on music as the rest of us. Yvo switched from guitar to bass and the first thing that our ambitious asses got to do was play Luxembourgh of all places! And to the same crowd that would attend most Dutch shows. The irony is appreciated, knowing this would not be our last show abroad!
